Six Southeast teams swam in the Ketchikan Invitational over the weekend at the Gateway Aquatics Center. Two separate meets were run on Friday and Saturday. Each were scored separately.

The Sitka Lady Wolves took first in the Saturday meet with 176 points. The Thunder Mountain Falcons took first for the boys on Saturday with 119 points.

The same two teams won the meet on Friday. The Juneau-Douglas High School girls team placed second in both meets.

TMHS’ Casey Hamilton finished first in three individual events between Friday and Saturday: the 200-yard medley, 100-yard backstroke and 50-yard freestyle. Hamilton teamed up with Noatak Post, Raymie Matiashowski and Micah Grigg to finish first in Friday’s 200-yard medley relay as well.

Juneau-Douglas’ Tate Goering also won multiple individual events. Goering beat out Matiashowski in Friday’s 200-yard freestyle for first place. Ten events later, Goering again won an event, this time in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.76 seconds.

Thunder Mountain’s Hannah Taube won both Friday and Saturday’s longest race: the 500-yard freestyle. Taube actually swam faster on the second day in the event, posting a 5 minutes, 43-seconds winning time.

An albacore tuna is hooked on a bait pole on Oct. 9, 2012, in waters off Oregon. Tuna are normally found along the U.S. West Coast but occasionally stray into Alaska waters if temperatures are high enough. Sport anglers catch them with gear similar to that used to hook salmon.
