The Thunder Mountain High School volleyball team took two games against the Ketchikan Kings this weekend.
The Falcons won 25-19, 23-25, 25-8, 26-6 in front of their football classmates on Saturday at the Clarke Cochrane Gym. The football team hung around town an extra day after playing in their own game on Friday. TMHS volleyball won 25-17, 25-15, 25-12 on Friday.
After losing the first set, the Kings tied the game up at one set apiece. TMHS head coach Arnold Ibias said his team was “a little complacent” in the second set, leading to unforced Falcons’ errors.
“Forgetting to rotate, forgetting where we’re supposed to be. It’s really about drilling that mental game into them,” Ibias said.
TMHS closed the third set on a 10-2 run before racing through the fourth and final set with an 11-0 run.
Senior Mary Landes said the chemistry is good among her teammates thus far.
“We all have a couple of seasons of experience,” she said.
TMHS now turns its attention to Sitka this weekend. The varsity plays at 8 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Thunderdome.
