Crimson Bears soccer girls send JV to Ketchikan

JDHS team helps Kayhi with important competitions

The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears girls sent their junior varsity team to Ketchikan for contests against the Kayhi varsity on Esther Shea Field.

According to JDHS head coach Matt Dusenberry the Juneau school consolidation that moved the Crimson Bears out of the Southeast Conference and into the Railbelt has left Ketchikan with the need for more games.

“I am just happy Ketchikan proposed getting these games added into the schedule,” Dusenberry said. “With the changes for both of us this season getting games for the kids was a challenge for both schools.”

The Crimson Bears JV fell 4-0 and 8-0 against the Lady Kings JV and varsity, respectively, on Thursday. The teams play again at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday.

“Despite the scores our JV girls brought it,” JDHS assistant coach Phil Subeldia said. “The effort was there, the hustle was there, the energy on the field and from their teammates on the bench was there… They still have a lot to learn from the game. I tried to remind them it isn’t about wins or losses this year. What matters is just continue to play hard, learn what you can each game, be there for each other, and continue to play it forward.”

The JDHS JV traveling team are coached by Subeldia and Kristen Wells.

Players traveling include:

Seniors – Mary Canapary, Alyssa Lawhorne, Dori Germain, Lena Field, Daniela Lamas,
