Bumble Bee Foods, LLC voluntarily recalled three specific universal product codes of canned Chunk Light Tuna due to process deviation that occurred in a co-pack facility not owned or operated by Bumble Bee. The deviations were part of the commercial sterilization process and could result in contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens, which could lead to life-threatening illness if consumed.
The Department of Environmental Conservation’s Food Safety and Sanitation Program has not received positive confirmation from the manufacturer or any of the distributors in Alaska that this product was received or distributed in Alaska. The DEC said in a statement is cannot definitively rule out that some distributors may have received it, so the department encourages consumers to check the universal product code to ensure that the tuna they have is not part of this recall.
