Spring Carnival comes to Juneau

For the next week, the Nugget Mall will temporarily turn into a haven of cotton candy, gravity-defying rides and flashing lights.

The Spring Carnival, presented by Golden Wheel Amusements, begins Friday and runs until Sunday, May 7. The carnival is open from 2-9 p.m. on weekdays, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Saturday and noon-9 p.m. Sunday. It’s closed on Tuesday, and the hours are weather and crowd permitting. The Nugget Mall is located at 8745 Glacier Highway.

Admission is free, but food, games and rides all charge. Tickets are sold individually for $1 each or in bundles. An online-only bundle, worth $50, includes 45 ride tickets, 10 game coupons and a free corn dog coupon. Group rates, for 20 or more people, are also available.

Food and ticket booths both accept cash, debit and credit card. Rides are all more than one ticket each, with children’s rides running between two and four tickets per ride and bigger rides costing between four and eight tickets per ride.

This year’s carnival will feature The Zipper, which the Golden Wheel website refers to as “the most requested ride of all time,” and is not for the faint of heart. Foot-long, bacon-wrapped, double-deep fried corn dogs are also available at The Fatty Shack, along with an array of other food options.
