Smile: Sunshine is coming

It’s going to be sunny and warm in Juneau.

Temperatures in the latter half of this week could top 70 degrees in Juneau for the first time since August as sunshine returns to the capital city.

According to a forecast published by the National Weather Service office here, cloudy conditions Tuesday will give way to sunny skies from Wednesday through Saturday. Temperatures each day are expected to be in the mid-60s, with a possibility for warmer weather in sunny, wind-shielded areas.

Record warmth isn’t likely — the record highs for dates this week are in the mid-70s.

While monthly average temperatures have been record-warm in Juneau through the first four months of the year, the thermometer has topped 60 degrees only once — on April 22 — at Juneau International Airport.

Rainfall is running about four inches above normal for this point in the year, and snowfall is about 55 inches below normal.
