Police seek information in sexual abuse of a minor case

There may be more to the case than has been discovered.

The Juneau Police Department is seeking any information about the activities of a man recently arrested for sexual abuse of a minor.

Walter Joseph Bennett Sr., 72, was indicted on charges of two counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor on Dec. 30, 2021, and arrested by Alaska State Troopers the next day on a $100,000 warrant, said Lt. Krag Campbell in a news release.

The indictment comes following a nine-month investigation of allegations that Bennett had sexually abused an 11-year-old girl over a period of several years, Campbell said.

Following the indictment, an 18-year-old woman reported being sexually abused by Bennett several years before, Campbell said.

Anyone who has information about these or other allegations is asked by the Juneau Police Department to make a report to them a (907)586-0600.
