Police search for shoplifter who carried out $500 worth of clothes, camping gear

Police are asking for help identifying a man caught on a surveillance video walking out of a store with more than $500 worth of merchandise.

A front door camera at the Nugget Alaskan Outfitter captured footage of a man exiting the store at approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday. Security devices lit up and buzzed as he headed outside onto the 9100 block Mendenhall Mall Road, chased by a second man and woman.

The shoplifter in the video appears to be a white man who police describe as being 5’10” tall. He was wearing faded blue jeans, a multicolored sweatshirt, a camouflage green baseball hat and brown boots.

JPD and the Crime Line highlighted the theft as their “Crime of the Week” on Friday. Police say the man walked around different departments in the store, picking out several women’s and men’s apparel items. Other camp related items are believed to have been on his person when he left, according to JPD’s press release. The estimated value of the missing items is $560.

In the video, the man can be seen picking up one last item on a clothing rack before heading for the exit/entrance way. That’s when a second man and woman can be seen following him outside, shouting “No!” as they realized he was leaving without paying first.
