Police & Fire for Friday, Dec. 11, 2015

Drunken driving

• At 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Gary Piper, 49, was arrested for operating a watercraft under the influence and refusing a breath test in the 100 block of Savikko Road. He was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

Fire and medical

• At 11:37 a.m. Wednesday, Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to a call of Glacier Highway for a person stuck in an elevator. The call was cancelled en route when they were advised the person was able to get out of the elevator and services were no longer needed. Around noon, CCFR received a report of a possible car fire on Egan Drive. Upon arrival, CCFR learned the car had overheated, and no other service was required. Throughout the day, CCFR responded to 12 EMS calls and one transport call to take a patient and flight team from Juneau International Airport to Bartlett Regional Hospital.

Motor vehicle crash

• At 9:17 p.m. Wednesday, the Juneau Police Department responded to a single vehicle collision involving a 22-year-old male driver in the 400 block of Willoughby Avenue.

• At 8:44 a.m. Thursday, JPD responded to a damage-only motor vehicle crash in the 3300 block of Fritz Cove Road. A Subaru Forester sustained approximately $5,000 in damages after it slid off the road and flipped into a ditch.

Shooting from roadway/Possess lead shot

• On Wednesday, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Juneau contacted Chatham Miller, 21 of Juneau, while duck hunting on the Mendenhall Wetlands after receiving a report of a man shooting at ducks from the roadway on Horizon Drive in Bay View subdivision. Investigation revealed Miller had shot a duck while physically standing on Horizon Drive. Further investigation revealed Miller was in possession of lead shot while waterfowl hunting. Miller was issued a two citations into the District Court at Juneau with a bail amount of $310 for unlawfully taking game by shooting from a roadway and $110 for unlawful possession of lead shot while duck hunting. If convicted of either offense Miller will also be banned from hunting on the Mendenhall Wetlands for the 2016 waterfowl season.

Theft

• At 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, JPD received a report of a theft in the 2200 block of Great Western Street.

• At 8:38 a.m. Thursday, a 2000 Ford Focus was reported stolen and was recovered a short time later. Investigation continues.

Warrant arrest

• At 11:08 p.m. Wednesday, Joshua Lehauli, 28, was arrested in the 6500 block of Glacier Highway on a warrant out of Washington. He was taken to LCCC and held without bail on the charge of commitment to await requisition, which is the charge for being a fugitive from out of state.

• At 1:50 a.m. Thursday, Robert Hillyer, 34, was arrested in the 3400 block of Greenwood Avenue on an outstanding $7,500 Alaska State Trooper warrant on the original charge of escape in the second degree. He was also charged with two counts of providing false information, two counts of driving while license revoked and one count of resisting arrest. He was taken to LCCC.
