Juneau man arrested after $111,000 in narcotics seized

Investigators say the package contained 219 grams of fentanyl and other drugs

Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs seized a package containing an estimated $111,000 worth of narcotics, including 219 grams of fentanyl.

The SEACAD task force “identified a suspicious package being shipped to Juneau” on Oct. 12, according to an Oct. 15 Juneau Police Department information release.

On Oct. 13, the package was delivered to Juneau resident Joshua Riley. Riley took the package to All-Star Auto. SEACAD officers followed and, upon opening the package, contacted Riley and searched the business.

Riley was arrested on federal charges of attempted possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, and was transported to Lemon Creek Correctional Center

Riley is listed as a registered agent of the All-Star Auto, though the state Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development lists the business as involuntarily dissolved.

On top of the 219 grams of fentanyl, JPD seized 10.12 grams of heroin, 8.2 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 4.89 grams of methamphetamine and an additional 0.66 grams of fentanyl in another package.

Alaska hit a record number of drug overdose deaths in 2023, followed by a decline in nonfatal opioid overdose in 2024. The recent decline in overdoses follows a nationwide trend, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention attributes in part to improved access to substance use disorder treatment and widespread distribution of naloxone, a medication that can reverse an overdose.
