Juneau Crime Line seeks tips in case of missing walrus tusks

The Juneau Crime Line is seeking the public’s help finding two walrus tusks stolen from Alaska Fur Gallery on Franklin Street.

In a Thursday morning email, Juneau Police Department Lt. Jeremy Weske said the tusks, which have been scrimshawed with a hunting scene, were mounted on a green granite plaque.

The tusks were taken sometime between April 2 and May 5, according to the email, and are valued at $20,000.

Several paintings were also taken from the walls, according to a person who answered the phone at the fur gallery on Thursday morning.

Anyone with information about the missing tusks is asked to report their location to the police department at 586-0600. Tips can also be left anonymously on the Juneau Crime Line, 523-7700 and http://juneaucrimeline.com. If a tip leads to the return of the tusks, the tipster may receive a reward of up to $2,000.
