Juneau Chamber of Commerce luncheon to feature city update

Juneau Chamber of Commerce luncheon attendees will hear two presentations Thursday on a topic that’s right up their alley — business.

The more local segment of the presentation is from City and Borough of Juneau City Manager Rorie Watt, whose presentation is simply titled “Update from CBJ.” Watt told the Empire he will probably discuss the city’s budget and the state of housing, homelessness and public safety in town. Watt has worked for the city since 1993, holding the position of City Manager since this past April.

The other presenter is Nicole Schuh of the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce, who will discuss Alaska Business Week (ABW). ABW is a summer program that welcomes high school students from around the state for one week to teach them the basics of business, leadership and entrepreneurship. Students live more or less in a simulation of college, living on Alaska Pacific University’s campus and working in groups.

Schuh is the Executive Director of the program, which focuses on giving students tools to succeed after high school, both in college and in the workplace.

The weekly luncheon takes place at noon Thursday at the Hangar on the Wharf Ballroom. Members of the Chamber pay $20 and non-members pay $25, and an RSVP is required to attend.
