Hit-and-run destroys portion of Montessori fence, knocks over stop sign

The incident on South Douglas is still under investigation, police say.

This is a developing story.

An early morning hit-and-run on South Douglas resulted in the destruction of a portion of wooden fencing along Juneau Montessori School near its playground and knocked over a stop sign nearby.

According to Juneau Police Department spokesperson Lt. Krag Campbell, police received a complaint reporting a loud noise in the area around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, which police believe is when the crash occurred.

The debris from the fence had been cleaned up later that morning and the stop sign was replaced.

The vehicle and driver did not stay at the scene following the crash, Campbell said. However, police were able to locate a vehicle believed to be involved in the crash not too far away from the scene on St. Ann’s Avenue.

Campbell said at around noon the driver of the vehicle had not been located and the case was still under investigation.

Multiple attempts to reach Juneau Montessori School were unsuccessful Thursday afternoon.
