Douglas Harbor ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place Friday

Though it opened up in mid-April, the newly renovated Douglas Harbor will be officially introduced to the public Friday.

At noon, Docks &Harbors is holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the harbor, which has been renamed to Mike Pusich Harbor. Many members of the Pusich family will be in attendance at the ceremony, which was scheduled in part around their schedule to ensure that as many of them could be there as possible.

Mike Pusich was a prominent member of the community after he moved to Douglas in the early 1900s, and the Pusich family has been important in Douglas’ history.

The renovation project took nearly a decade to complete, mostly due to the eight years it took for Docks &Harbors to get dredging permits for the harbor. The main priorities centered around dredging the harbor to make it deeper and rebuilding some of the floats in the harbor, which is located on Savikko Road on Douglas Island.

This is the third ribbon-cutting ceremony for Docks &Harbors this month, following the unveiling of the new cruise ship dock May 5 and Statter Harbor on May 19.
