Charity run for end-of-life care Saturday

Catholic Community Services is hosting its 12th annual Heart of Hospice Run this Saturday, April 8 at Twin Lakes.

The run is a benefit for the Hospice and Home Care of Juneau, which provides nursing care to the home-bound and end-of-life patients in the familiar surroundings of their own homes.

Participants can choose either a 5K or 1 mile walk option. Registration starts at 8:15 a.m. Saturday with the race slated for 9 a.m.

Pre-register for the event by 4 p.m. Friday for lower entry fees at the following locations: Tongass CrossFit, Juneau Curves, Pavitt Health & Fitness, University of Alaska Southeast Rec center, Goals Gym, Nugget Alaskan Outfitter, Foggy Mountain Shop, Alaska Brewing Co., The Alaska Club and Catholic Community Services.

Pre-registration for those under the age of 18 costs $15 and $20 for those over 18. Race day registration costs $20 for runners under 18 and $25 for those over 18.

The event will include a T-shirt and food served at the Twin Lakes Shelter. Southeast Road Runners sponsor the Heart of Hospice Run.

Hospice and Home Care of Juneau provides services to anyone in need, as directed by the patient’s physician. Services include equipment loans, bereavement services and volunteer services such as companionship, caregiver respite, therapeutic massage, delivered meals, construction tasks, errands and the recording of life histories.
