Alleged car thief, attacker pleads not guilty

The 38-year-old man who was at the center of a police search in Switzer Village Mobile Park last month pleaded not guilty to three felony charges during his arraignment Monday.

Laron Carlton Graham, 38, was charged with first-degree vehicle theft, third-degree assault and second-degree robbery following an incident on March 17. He was indicted by a Juneau grand jury March 25.

According to a police complaint filed in court, Graham visited a woman at her residence in the Lemon Creek area, despite a trespass notice prohibiting him from being there, and assaulted her. He then fled with her phone and a car owned by the woman’s friend.

Graham remains in custody at Lemon Creek Correctional Center and his bail is set at $35,000 cash, which Assistant District Attorney Angie Kemp recommended during an earlier hearing because she said Graham has a criminal record that spans multiple states.

Defense attorney Eve Soutiere of the Office of Public Advocacy reserved her bail arguments for a later date.

Graham’s trial is scheduled to begin June 6.
