State seeks citizen help for trails

The State of Alaska is looking for citizen help in stewarding its trails. The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation is seeking is seeking applications for a board position on the Outdoor Recreational Trails Advisory board.

The board member will represent trail users who participate in or are interested in multiple trail activities and sports. The Outdoor Recreational Trails Adisory Board is responsible for assisting in evaluating grant proposals for the Recreational Trails Program and the Land and Water Conservations Fund, which have invested approximately $30 million in trail projects throughout the state since 2000. Board members are also often consulted for advice on other outdoor-recreation matters.

This is a commissioner-appointed position with a three-year term. The board meets minimum once a year in Anchorage.

Those interested should submit a letter of interest, brief resume and a completed questionnaire to State Trails Program Manager Darcy Harris at darcy.harris@alaska.gov. The questionnaire can be downloaded at http://dnr.alaska.gov/Assets/uploads/DNRPublic/parks/grants/ortabuestionnaire.pdf. The deadline to apply is October 1, 2017.
