SAIL to hold dementia presentation and workshop

Southeast Alaska Independent Living Inc. will hold a free presentation and workshop in the month of March on dementia.

“Excellence in Dementia Care — Enhancing Well-being & Improving Living Spaces” workshop will take place on Wednesday, March 16 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Centennial Hall. Experts G. Allen Power and Rosemary Bakker will speak on innovative approaches to dementia care. Powers will discuss an experimental approach to care-giving that enhances well-being. Bakker will highlight the art and science of designing and improving living spaces to preserve independence, enhance safety and reduce agitation for persons living with dementia.

For medical professionals, this costs $115 for a full day and $65 for a half day. For a family caregiver, this workshop is free. Box lunch provided.

“Home Safety for People with Dementia-Preserving Independence, Enhancing Safety & Reducing Agitation” presentation will take place on Thursday, March 17 from 10:30 a.m.-noon at the Mendenhall Valley Public Library. At this seminar, Bakker will highlight the art and science of designing and improving living spaces to preserve independence, enhance safety and reduce agitation for persons living with dementia, including an overview of latest products and technologies.

Event is free. Local space may be limited.
