Safe Home Food Preservation Certification workshop available

Want to learn how to safely preserve Southeast Alaska’s local food resources? Well now you can and get certified at the same time.

Through the Juneau Cooperative Extension Service along with the University of Alaska Fairbanks and SEARHC, a workshop will take place to teach participants the needed skills to can, dehydrate and freeze foods.

Between Feb.16 – May 13, six lessons must be completed online prior to the in-person workshop portion which will be take place at different times in Juneau, Ketchikan and Sitka. The Juneau portion will take at Chez Alaska Cooking School (2092 Jordan Ave., Suite 585) on March 12-13 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Kethcikan’s will happen at Ketchikan High School Home Economics Kitchen April 16-17 from 9 a.m.m- 5 p.m. The Sitka workshop will take place at Blatchley Middle School Home Economics Kitchen on May 14-15 from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Registration opens Tuesday, Feb. 16 at bit.ly/ces-workshops. The workshop costs $200.
