This October, Juneau voters will elect a mayor, two City and Borough of Juneau Assembly members and three Juneau School District Board of Education members.

So if you, or someone you know, would like to run for public office, but do not know exactly what that entails, there is a learning experience coming soon.

The Juneau League of Women Voters is holding its fourth annual free “How to Run for Local Office” workshop from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 9 in Assembly Chambers.

The workshop consists of panel presentations followed by time for questions and answers on panel topics. The panel will discuss legal requirements for candidates, the jobs of Assembly and school board members, campaign basics and preparing to run and serve. Each person who registers, and attends, will leave with a complete toolkit of forms, references and “How To’s.” Coffee and snacks will be provided.

Anyone with comments or questions may email the Juneau League of Women Voters at lwvjuneauak@gmail.org or call at 957-1175.

In addition to the Juneau League of Women Voters, the workshop is also sponsored by the municipal clerk’s office, Juneau Public Libraries and the Juneau School District.
