Class of 2013 Juneau-Douglas High School graduate Kyle Fagerstrom recently earned his dual degree in fire science/municipal fire control and paramedicine in May from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. While earning his degrees, he also received national and state certification as a paramedic and certification as a Fire Fighter II. In June, Fagertrom was promoted to a staff position at Chena Goldstream Fire and Rescue in Fairbanks as an engineer and lead medic. Fagerstrom has been serving as a volunteer at this station for the past two years.

Fagerstrom initially became interested in this career field due to the University of Alaska Southeast EET and EMT courses offered as a special after school program to the Juneau School District. His education at UAF was partly made possible by the Alaska Performance Scholarship Program.
