Haugland to lead salsa workshop, Latin dance party this week in Juneau

Former Juneau resident Heather Haugland will lead two salsa workshops and a Latin dance party this week in Juneau.

The Salsa workshops will be held Wednesday Feb. 3 at Suite 907. A level one class runs from 6-7:15 pm and level two from 7:30-8:45 pm. The cost is $12/class, or $20 for both, or $8 and $15 for students (under 21 requires guardian). Partners not required. Find out more here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1685967964949782/

A Viva Cuba Latin Dance Party will be held Friday Feb. 5 at the JACC from 7:30-10:30 pm in collaboration with Ballroom Dances. A salsa lesson with Haugland will be offered at 8 pm, and may include instruction in other rhythms. The dance party will include salsa, cha cha, merengue, bachata, tango, reggaeton and more. Haugland lived in Juneau from 1998 through 2010. She and her husband, Antonia Diaz, established an annual Dance Fest that featured guest instructors and musicians from around the world, hosted a weekly Salsa Night, and taught classes to a wide range of locals. They now run their own Latin dance instruction company in Bellingham, Rumba Northwest (see http://rumbanorthwest.com/).
