Poetry workshop comes to Juneau, pets can help the JAHC, Ketchikan trapping closures lifted

News briefs for the week of Nov. 21, 2018.

A place of one’s own

“Human Geography: Putting Words in Their Place with Joanna Lilley” comes to Juneau on Monday, Dec. 3 at the Mother Kathleen Library at Holy Trinity, 415 Fourth St. The 49 Writers program examines the relationship between the poetry people write and where they live and how poetry helps people articulate their relationship with places. It is $39 for members or full-time students or $48 for general enrollment. There is a cap of 12 people.

Registration can be done at http://49writers.org/joanna-lilley-class.

Howdy PAWtner

There are now pet memberships for Juneau Arts & Humanities Council.

They can become Little Paws Pawtners for a year for $20, or Big Paws PAWtners for $35.

The standard membership includes an ID tag, biscuits at the JACC, 10 percent off tickets and lobby shop sales and a $5 donation to Southeast Alaska Organization for Animals.

The Big Paws membership includes the same perks, except a $10 donation is made to SOFA and pets receive a PAWtner ball instead of a tag.

Pets can sign up online at www.jahc.org.

Trapping closures along Ketchikan trails lifted

KETCHIKAN — Forest Service trapping closures along Ketchikan area trails have been lifted.

Forest Supervisor Earl Stewart made the decision after review of feedback from the public meeting held on Oct.17, and after reviewing applicable law and Forest Service policy, according to a press release from the Forest Service. The temporary, emergency closure prohibited trapping within 150 feet of trails and campgrounds along the Ketchikan road system. This emergency closure was intended to be temporary.
