Juneau police ID man found in river

The Juneau Police Department on Monday released the name of the deceased man who was found in the Mendenhall River last month.

He was identified as 40-year-old Jeremy Christian Brinker, Juneau Police Department Public Safety Manager Erann Kalwara said in a release.

Police said previously that they had identified him, but were waiting to release his name publicly until next of kin was notified. He was from California.

Brinker’s body was discovered shortly after 11 a.m. on April 10 when a man reported to police that he spotted a coat in the river near the Dredge Lake Trail system, according to a JPD press release at the time. Responding authorities located his body about a 30-minute walk upriver from the trailhead on Back Loop Road in about knee-deep water. Police at the time estimated he had been in the water for about two days.

The circumstances around his death are still unknown.
