Avista announces 2017 philanthropy efforts

Eight organizations and the Juneau School District are receiving seasonal contributions from the Avista Foundation and Avista Corp. in support of the City and Borough of Juneau. The organizations are the Eaglecrest Foundation, Juneau Community Foundation, Juneau Jazz and Classics, Juneau School District, Juneau Symphony, KTOO Public Media, Salvation Army Juneau, Southeast Alaska Food Bank and The Glory Hole Shelter.

Avista has given a total of $47,400 to Juneau in 2017. In November 2017, the foundation pledged $250,000 over five years in support of the new Juneau Arts and Culture Center.

“We are very pleased to make these contributions to benefit the residents of Juneau,” said Dennis Vermillion, senior vice president of Avista Corp., president of Avista Utilities, and chairman of the board for AEL&P. “Avista is an active partner in every community we serve. We firmly believe that by supporting nonprofit organizations and their programs, we can help strengthen the social, cultural and economic vitality and enhance the quality of lives to build a strong community for everyone.”

Avista Foundation and Avista Corp. 2017 seasonal Juneau donations are:

Eaglecrest Foundation — $2,000 to the youth ski program

Juneau Community Foundation — $10,000 to the Hope Fund Endowment

Juneau Jazz and Classics — $1,000 to the community New Year’s celebration

Juneau School District — $3,000 to Project 3 Squares – Food for Children

Juneau Symphony — $1,000 general support

KTOO Public Media — $1,000 general support

Salvation Army Juneau — $2,500 general support

The Glory Hole Shelter — $2,000 general support

Southeast Alaska Food Bank — $400 food bank
