A 61-year-old man was critically injured Tuesday morning when he was struck by a car at the intersection of Douglas Highway and Cordova Street, according to the Juneau Police Department.

Officials received a call about the incident at 7:07 a.m., Erann Kalwara, a JPD spokesperson, wrote in an email. JPD and Capital City Fire/Rescue personnel responded immediately, and JPD’s Major Accident Response Team responded shortly after.

Both lanes of Douglas highway were closed at Cordova Street for about two hours, according to Kalwara.

A 69-year-old woman driving a red 2008 Honda CRV hit the pedestrian, Kalwara noted. The accident remains under investigation.

The man was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital and is in critical condition, according to Kalwara.
