Youth fishing events to be held around Southeast

The Tongass National Forest, partner agencies, groups, businesses, and local volunteers are sponsoring youth fishing events throughout Southeast. No experience is needed to participate in these events. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and all persons should bring proper footwear and clothing.

• Prince of Wales Island —Jim Beard Memorial Fishing Day, June 25, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Gravely Creek in Thorne Bay. Participants should bring fishing gear and T-shirt to print a fish on. For more information, contact Brandy Prefontaine at 907-828-3217.

• Juneau — Family Fishing Day, June 4, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Twin Lakes: All ages are invited. For more information, contact Barbara Adams at 907-789-6252.

• Hoonah — Kids Fishing Derby, June 4, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Icy Strait Point. For more information, contact Jack Ruggirello at 907-945-1225.

• Ketchikan — Kids Fishing Derby, June 18, 9 a.m.-noon, at City Park. For ages 3-15. For more information, call Jessica Davila at 907-225-2148.
