Community calendar for July 26, 2025

Submissions to this calendar can be sent to editor@juneauempire.com. They should include the date, time, location, short summary of the event, a website and/or social media page for the event if applicable, if an admission fee is required, and contact information. Submissions are not guaranteed of inclusion and may be edited for length or content. The calendar is also published in the print editions of the Juneau Empire, and submissions for those should be received by 9 a.m. Monday for Wednesday’s paper and 9 a.m. Thursday for Saturday’s paper.

SATURDAY, JULY 26

“The Planets: Music by Gustav Holst” at Marie Drake Planetarium, 1415 Glacier ave, 7-8 p.m.

Travel through our Solar System while listening to “The Planets” by Gustav Holst, a 1917 classical composition. Each movement is named after a planet in the solar system and reflects its astrological character, as described by Holst. Reserve a spot: mariedrakeplanetarium.org.

SUNDAY, JULY 27

Sundays with the Juneau Symphony, 1-2 p.m. Weekly on KRNN.

Sundays with the Juneau Symphony is the place for your local connection to classical music. Each week features episodes with new performances, musician interviews, and an ongoing spotlight (https://www.juneauempire.com/spotlight/) on the local music scene. International Folk Dance, 4 p.m.-5:45 p.m. Alaska Club Downtown, 641 W. Willoughby Ave.

Senior Sing Along with Jacque, 11 a.m.-noon.

Stop into the Senior Center each Monday at 11 am for a piano sing-along with Jacque. Free senior lunch afterward, starting at 11:45 a.m. $5 suggested donation. Contact: JSCOutreach@ccsak.org.

Introduction to Climbing Clinic, 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Rock Dump Indoor Climbing Gym, 1310 Eastaugh Way.

Learn the fundamentals of climbing movement and technique. Whether you’re just starting or want to sharpen skills, this weekly session is the perfect way to build confidence on the wall. $40 for non-members, $20 for members. Juneau Makerspace Open Studio, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Juneau Makerspace, 3915 N Douglas Hwy.

Tour the facilities, get new member orientations, and work on your own projects, including ceramics, woodworking, sewing, painting, print making, electronics, cooking, and much more. Art for Self Care, 5:30-7 p.m., 418 Harris St #315, Articorp Building

These are groups designed to promote self care using a variety of art activities. For adults to help relieve anxiety, depression and stress especially during the winter months.

Urban Sketchers Meetup, 5:30-7:30pm, Downtown Library Large Meeting Room

Urban Sketching is the practice of on-location drawing and storytelling. Meet ups are a chance to get together with other artists and share your work. We will draw the area around the downtown library.

Beginning and Advanced ESL Classes, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Mendenhall Valley Public Library

Beginning ESL classes offered from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Advanced ESL classes offered from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Both classes are completely free.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 30

Senior Chair Yoga, 11-11:30 a.m., Juneau Senior Center.
