Alaskans Afield offers shotgun, waterfowl hunting classes

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is offering two Alaskans Afield classes this August — one focusing on shotguns and the other on waterfowl hunting.

“Step into shotgun,” planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, will focus on “the basic fundamentals of shooting at moving targets.” Minimum age is 10 years; the workshop costs $45.

The second class, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, will focus on waterfowl hunting on the wetlands. It will teach gear and ammunition selection, distance estimation, setting up decoys, calling ducks in, and how to construct a blind. The cost is $20. Go to alaskansafield.adfg.alaska.gov and click on the “Juneau” tab to register. Contact Abby Lowell at 465-4292 or abby.lowell@alaska.gov with questions.
