Turkey Shoot 2020 canceled due to virus

The Juneau Gun Club will not hold its annual Turkey Shoot as they support Juneau’s efforts to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, said the president of the club’s board.

“We canceled it last week due to the city’s restrictions on COVID,” said board of directors president Jerry Godkin in a phone interview. “We thought we’d be a good participant in reducing the spread.”

Phase 3 restrictions limit the facility to 20 people, Godkin said. The club is hopeful that perhaps a vaccine release will allow for a springtime Easter-themed shooting event. In the meantime, the facility is open two days a week for shooting.

“The way our trap fields are set up is nine feet so we’re socially distancing anyway,” Godkin said. “We’re asking the public to wear a mask inside.”

The Juneau Gun Club is open on Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
