Two cars were involved in a head-on crash near the Auke Bay Ferry Terminal Tuesday afternoon, totaling both vehicles, police say.

A vehicle driving outbound struck a vehicle driving inbound at about 1:15 p.m., Juneau Police Department Public Safety Manager Erann Kalwara said in an email.

“The investigation revealed that the 59 year old male driver of a black Mazda SUV was driving outbound when it failed to make the curve and struck a blue Chevrolet Cruise head-on,” Kalwara wrote in a later release.

The 59-year-old man was extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital, but with minor injuries. The 65-year-old driver and 58-year-old passenger of the Chevrolet both suffered some cuts, but were not taken to the hospital.

A guardrail was also damaged.

Both vehicles were quickly towed from the scene, and impounded as evidence.
