Juneau’s high school volleyball teams took 14 out of 16 sets over Southeast competition on the first day of the Juneau Invitational Volleyball Extravaganza.

Thunder Mountain High School went 8-0 and Juneau-Douglas: Yadaat.at Kalé went 6-2 in round-round play Friday at JDHS. Each match in the round-robin portion of the tournament consists of two sets to 21 points, ending Saturday morning. The squads then play in a double-elimination tournament on Saturday afternoon and evening.

TMHS played Petersburg, Craig, Wrangell and Klawock Friday, winning by scores of 21-10, 21-7, 21-13, 21-14, 21-17, 21-6, 21-14 and 21-6. JDHS played the same four, winning both sets over Wrangell (21-9, 21-12) and Craig (21-18, 21-15), while splitting sets with Klawock (16-21, 21-16) and Petersburg (21-18, 17-21).

The Falcons have won the last three JIVE Tournaments.
