First Day Hike set for Eagle Beach

The First Day Hike with Juneau Area State Parks Advisory Board is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday Dec. 29.

First Day hikes happen around Alaska and the U.S. annually in an attempt to get folks on the trails in the new year. The Juneau event is scheduled for late December instead of early January because it was the weekend closest to the start of the New Year, and it raises awareness of First Day programs.

Hikers will meet at the main parking lot of Eagle Beach next to the ranger station.

All ages and well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome.

The trail will be less than a mile, and attendees are encouraged to bring appropriate clothing, a headlamp, recreation equipment, water snacks or something to roast over a fire.
