Wish List

She wants a swing set

and a small playground from Santa.

What could be better

for a spirit that flies on fantasy

and a body that sings with motion?

She adds to her list:

mushrooms, pieces of bark,

three bugs in a cage,

and a skeleton

from any small animal.

My gift to her,

a rock collection and magnifying lens

I hope will make up for

the bark, bugs and skeleton

that are not under the tree.

The gift I receive

wasn’t on my wish list either.

I didn’t know I needed

her wiggly body next to mine

sweetly singing Silent Night.
