JUNEAU — Ted Cruz has suspended his presidential campaign, but he wants to keep the delegates he won in the Alaska presidential preference poll.

In a letter to the state GOP, dated Sunday, Cruz says he encourages delegates who supported him to participate in shaping the party platform at the national convention.

Cruz won 12 delegates in the March preference poll. Donald Trump won 11 and Marco Rubio, five. The delegates for each were selected at last month’s state GOP convention.

Cruz suspended his campaign days later. Rubio previously suspended his campaign but also asked to keep his delegates.

State GOP chairman Tuckerman Babcock says in a statement that the number of delegates pledged to each will remain unchanged barring any further requests.
