Elizabeth Peratrovich to be honored at Thursday event

Today is Elizabeth Peratrovich Day, a day dedicated to the civil rights leader who advocated for Alaska Native Rights and was instrumental in the passing of the Anti-Discrimination Act.

To honor her, an annual event will be held at Thunder Mountain High School this Thursday, Feb. 18, from 10:30 a.m.–1:50 p.m.

Inside the gymnasium, the event will be broken down to two different sessions, both featuring guest speakers. The first session will discuss the political and legal implications of the Anti-Discrimination Act, and the second will focus on the importance of Elizabeth Peratrovich and grassroots and community organizing.

The schedule of guest speakers is as follows:

• Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott, 10:35-11:10 a.m.

• Barbara Blake, 11:10-11:30 a.m.

• Maddie Soboleff, 11:30-11:50 a.m.

• Lunch break, 11:50-12:30 p.m.

• Peter Metcalfe and Kathy Ruddy, 12:35-1 p.m.

• Ishmael Hope, 1:00-1:25 p.m.

• Andrea Cesar and Marcelo Quinto, 1:25-1:45 p.m.
