Southeast Senior Services offers this Free Tai Chi program to ages 60+. The 8-week series taught by a certified instructor meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 23 – March 14. Tai Chi improves strength and balance and reduces the risk of falls. Registration is required.

Meeting Awareness, oil paintings by Susan Watson Opening Reception: Friday, January 2nd from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. Exhibition Dates: January 2nd – 31st, 2026 Meeting Awareness is a series by painter Susan Watson that includes eight large close-up oil paintings of faces.

The main intention of the series is to use portraiture to dive deeply into what it means to meet someone directly, to connect with their awareness, reality and being, through the medium of oil paint. Each painting is meant to be an offering of a meditative experience through an intimate meeting with an apparent “other”. FREE. The show will be on display through January 31

Fireside Lecture: Diary of a Forest Ranger

Join us for poignant and humorous stories from Pete Griffin’s Forest Service career. Pete will share tales that trace his path from being a solitary introvert working in the woods to becoming the Juneau District Ranger in the largest national forest. He will give us the inside story on his interpersonal relationships with recalcitrant beavers and a friendly black wolf, and how he found a second career as a naturalist on Alaska cruises. Block Printing Workshop @ Juneau Makerspace

Join Jim Heumann for four Saturdays of relief printmaking at the Juneau Makerspace in January 2026. We will focus on all phases of block printmaking including image development and transfer, carving techniques, material and paper selection, single and multi-color prints, print registration, and safe printing and cleanup practices. Participants will have the opportunity to produce single, multicolor, and reduction block prints.

This workshop will take place on the following Saturdays: January 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th, from 9:00 to 12:00 pm, and is meant for beginner to experienced printmakers with an adult focus (ages 15 and older).
