Man arrested after police respond to report of a break-in

Juneau Police Department officers arrested a man early Monday morning after receiving a report of a home burglary, a JPD spokesperson said.

Nicholas Lee Morgan, 35, was arrested after JPD received a call at 2:46 a.m. of a burglary in progress on the 1000 block of Coogan Drive, said Lt. Krag Campbell in a release.

Officers arrived on the scene and located Morgan in a nearby car, Campbell said. Morgan was dressed in black with gloves and his face obscured.

Inside the car, officers found a bag containing possessions of the victim with an estimated value of less than $250, Campbell said.

The person who called in the burglary told police the suspect used a ladder to gain access to the residence, Campbell said, and the suspect damaged a window worth $300.

Morgan was placed under arrest for first-degree burglary, a class B felony, according to JPD. Morgan was also charged with a number of misdemeanors including fourth-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree theft and violating conditions of release.

Morgan was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held without bail, Campbell said.
