Power is back for downtown Juneau

A large portion of downtown Juneau was without power for just over two hours this morning.
Alaska Electric Light & Power’s official Twitter account announced the outage at 10:23 a.m., and announced power was restored at 12:40 p.m.
Outage was caused by a failed underground cable. We were able to reroute all affected customer loads to an alternate feeder and restore power. We will remain in this configuration until repairs can be completed on the underground section of line.

“The crew was working non-stop to try to identify the problem,” said AEL&P Vice President and Director of Consumer Affairs Debbie Driscoll said, when reached by phone, crews are working downtown to restore power. “As always, I’m more than happy with out crew.”
The cause of the outage was a failed underground cable, according to AEL&P’s Twitter.
Power was rerouted for affected customers, and that configuration will remain until the failed section of line is repaired.
The outage mostly affected downtown businesses in an area between Centennial Hall and the downtown library. Driscoll said that worked out to be about 300 locations without power.
