Trooper shoots man in confrontation on Kenai Peninsula

ANCHORAGE — Authorities say a state trooper has shot and killed a man during a confrontation on the Sterling Highway in the Kenai Peninsula.

According to a trooper dispatch, the trooper had pulled over a driver Saturday night after a short pursuit.

Troopers say the driver initiated a physical altercation with the trooper, who then fired his weapon.

The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The trooper was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The shooting remains under investigation.
