Carver to lead whistles workshop in Ketchikan

KETCHIKAN — Tsimshian artist John Hudson will lead a workshop called “Voices from Cedar: Carved Whistles of Southeast Alaska” at the Totem Heritage Center on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7-8, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tools and a blocked out “blank” for carving will be provided to each student.

Students must be comfortable using an adze and curved knives; beginners with some experience preferred.

The workshop was organized with the Smithsonian Institution’s Arctic Studies Center at the Anchorage Museum.
