Staff members at Capital City Fire Rescue are asking Juneau residents to dig out fire hydrants near their homes and businesses as heavy snow continues.
According to a press release from CCFR, there are 1,500 fire hydrants throughout the city. As of yesterday, Jan. 8, fire crews and community groups have only been able to clear roughly 110 of them.
CCFR is asking folks to adopt nearby fire hydrants. By clearing at least a three-foot radius around the hydrant and creating a path to the street, community members can “save precious minutes in an emergency.”
A map of every fire hydrant in Juneau is available on the city’s website.
