Who’s Your Diva: Anneka Morgan

JLO: What was your first memorable public performance?

AM: When I was about 11 I sang “Castle on a Cloud” from Les Misérables at a church talent show. It was one of my first public performances, but what really makes it memorable is that this was the early days of the Internet (around 1996), and someone took pictures of every performance and posted them on the church website. It was the first picture of me ever online, and I was so surprised and amazed to see myself there!

 

JLO: Who are three singers who have influenced you throughout your singing career?

AM: Isabel Bayrakdarian, Lea Salonga, and Audra McDonald.

 

JLO: Who are local performers who inspire you?

AM: I’m just getting into the music scene here, so I don’t have an answer yet.

 

JLO: What are three songs you absolutely love to sing?

AM: Amazing Grace, Von Ewiger Liebe by Brahms, and Walking In The Air from “The Snowman.”

 

JLO: What is your favorite local role or performance?

AM: I’m not super familiar with local performances yet, but I always love going to the symphony!

 

JLO: What is your favorite place to sing (besides the stage)?

AM: Cathedrals, parking garages, and stairwells. Anywhere with great acoustics!

 

JLO: What is a famous movie or theatre role you would love the chance to play?

AM: Perhaps it’s cliché, but Éponine from Les Misérables has always been my dream role. I strongly identify with her and she is such a tragic character.

 

JLO: What are some of your other interests besides singing?

AM: Photography and cooking.
