The Juneau Community Bands’ fall concert is tonight, Saturday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Juneau Arts and Culture Center.

The theme, Oktoberfest, is back by popular demand, since they first debuted the theme two years ago.

“People enjoyed the camaraderie of having a beer while they were waiting for the concert, eating together and socializing, along with just sitting and listening to music,” said Sarah McNair-Grove, president and clarinetist for the band.

TK Maguire’s is cooking for the event, serving brats, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes at 6 p.m.

Music will be largely German-themed, featuring Strauss waltzes and polkas. One piece by Johannes Brahms is a conglomeration of German drinking songs turned symphonic.

The band will teach a short dance lesson to help everyone find their footing. Dressed in dirndl, lederhosen and other German attire, the band encourages the audience to do the same.

“After all this rainy weather we’ve been having the last week or so, it’ll be a fun way to come together,” McNair-Grove said.

Proceeds for the dinner will go toward a $500 music scholarship for students.
