Alaska Tsunami Bowl competition results

High school students across Alaska participated in Alaska Tsunami Bowl, a scientific competition on ocean research.

Teams had to present research papers to a panel of judges, which were judged on quality and thoroughness. These research projects were worked on since the beginning of the school year. Team’s starting position were based on these papers for the buzzer round. In the buzzer rounds teams were pitted against each other and the clock to answer thought-provoking, scientific questions. This round led to the final championship.

Mat-Su Career and Technical High School’s Mat-Tsunamis placed first. Second went to Juneau-Douglas High School’s Netflix and Krill, and third went to JDHS’s Pier Pressure. Elias Antaya of Netflix and Krill, and Zoey Kriegmont of Pier Pressure both won Most Valuable Player from each of their respective teams.
