Police: Man injured Saturday willingly exited moving vehicle

The Juneau Police Department said that a 26-year-old man injured after exiting a moving vehicle early Saturday morning did so of his own volition.

The police do not believe the driver of the vehicle, who JPD identified as 22-year-old Honour Miller-Austin, was aware the man was injured, said Lt. Krag Campbell in a news release.

The man, whose name was not given, exited the vehicle near the intersection of Egan Drive and Glacier Highway at approximately 1:33 a.m. on Saturday morning and suffered serious injuries. A pedestrian called emergency services, and the man was medevaced to Harborview Medical Center in Washington. He’s currently in stable condition, according to police.

Miller-Austin was arrested on charges of driving under the influence following the event. She has cooperated fully with investigators and there have been no further charges issued, according to JPD.
