Juneau police car strikes pedestrian

A Juneau Police Department officer driving a patrol vehicle struck a teenage pedestrian on Mendenhall Loop Road on Thursday night.

The pedestrian, a 17-year-old girl who police did not publicly identify, was treated for minor injuries but did not require hospitalization, said Lt. Krag Campbell in a news release.

The officer was taking a left turn from Mendenhall Loop Road onto Valley Boulevard just after 8 p.m., Campbell said. when the collision occured. The pedestrian was crossing the road when the officer driving the patrol car struck her.

The officer immediately stopped to assist the pedestrian, Campbell said, calling for medical services. Capital City Fire/Rescue responded, conducting a medical evaluation, but the injuries were not serious, Campbell said.

The case is under investigation by JPD, Campbell said.

The Empire has requested dashcam footage of the incident.
