Thane Road will be closed for three hours on Sunday to allow for avalanche hazard reduction, the state’s transportation department announced.

The closure is scheduled for 3-6 p.m. on March 28, Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities said in a news release. The hazard reduction will allow Alaska Electric Light & Power to repair a damaged transmission line.

An extended road closure may be necessary if avalanche debris reaches the roadway.

The road has been closed several times this year to allow for similar mitigation operations.
