A brief window in the rain let the 2020 GLITZ Drive-in Drag Show on Saturday go off without a hitch Saturday evening, as drag queens and kings strutted across a stage in the University of Alaska Southeast parking lot.
Dozens of cars were arranged as best they could be in UAS’ tiered parking lot around a portable stage and lights set up on the middle tier. Music blared while performers danced and lip-synced to the cheering, shouting and honking of the spectators who’d been asked to stay inside their cars.
As the evening grew darker, many turned on their cellphone flashlights to wave alongside the flashing high-beams of all the cars. There were two shows Saturday evening, and by the end of the first show shortly after 8 p.m., cars were already lining up for the 9 p.m. show.
