On Sept. 13, Boy Scouts from Troop 11 were thrilled to take a tour of the cruise ship Coral Princess on its last visit to Juneau this summer. The boys met Captain Nicolo Binetti and then environmental officer Yulian Varbonov took the boys down into parts of the ship seldom seen by passengers. The Scouts saw where waste is sorted and aluminum cans are crushed for recycling. Princess Cruises has been donating aluminum cans from some of their ships to Troop 11 for almost 20 years. The Troop uses the funds earned from recycling the cans to help pay for camping gear, summer camp and high adventure trips. Troop 11 is sponsored by Resurrection Lutheran Church and would like to thank Princess Cruises and port operations manager Kirby Day.
